different folks strokes

had our annual dept review with kroenenburgs and too much laughter for a work-related meeting.nothing out of the norm except the things i've come to learn about each.

rose - always an enigma.seems too happy and content, she who once asked me to desk-sit for her during her sabbatical coz she liked her cubicle that much. anyway she left early with reason being her hubby didn't know she was out and he'd forbid her otherwise. i was like, ok he's indian that i get. but did we suddenly teleport to victorian england?? anyway, he apparently forbids her on any outing.period. so short of chaining her to the bed and calling himself Heathcliff, i think there's something disturbing in this. and this after she tells me on the ride there after i apologised for the smoke in my car that she used to drink and smoke a lot in her youth.haha waseh 180 degree much.that or the whole patriarchal marriage can do wonders for one's vices.maybe i should marry an arab then

val- well, still a 2-d character to me. no love loss that she's leaving but we've established a comfortable professional distance despite her being the only one here on my fb (limited profile notwithst). she's off to HQ which i guess suits her better than contempt for students all the time it's not even funny. in a way i get her sadness and need to overcompensate with a front of indifference, but i think deep down she does need approval. scorpios. sounds jill-like it's scary haha

guru- i can read this guy like the back of my hand. he's really a beta-male trapped in a frighteningly large frame, which makes him a gentle giant. he has so much more compassion than any of the women it's almost like being the only male has made him become the narrative of herland he teaches life imitates art so to speak. what i like about this guy is his respectful distance.he has that need to know basis attitude to his coworkers, and working with him alone this year has showed up really darling traits which will make me miss having a man on the team next year.

soks - what can i say, a fellow cancerian is a boon and bane. i get her most of the time and perhaps that also makes me a lot less tolerant of her shortcomings, pun intended hehe. she's often scatter-brained,last minute and then demanding. that is the sort of combi which wouldn't matter unless you're in position of management, i wouldn't say authority coz that'd be over-rating things around here. it's like a pseudo world of really important matters. most of which can be dismissed in a jot but escalated to a level of frantic need because like most civil servants who never stepped beyond the realms of their provincial experiences, they see everything parochially and larger than it warrants. that sums her up to a tee, although she probably doesn't wish she were, given her other side which emerges after a pint. i think all she wants is to drink mojitos all day in between tending to her 3 sprogs.

so well, it's like a weird feeling of endearment and pity (bordering on disdain) for this team of quirky peeps. i guess it's great to have this last lap with them in a workplace that is otherwise soma-inducingly dull.
